“The Art of Ballet” Enrichment Workshop
Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education expert faculty present a lively and interactive overview of the dance world with a focus on the art of ballet. General topics include a brief history of dance, how dancers train and learn choreography, the equipment and dancewear they use, and the challenges of partnering. Presentations also offer a glimpse behind the scenes of one of Boston Ballet’s current productions. Real costumes and footwear from Boston Ballet’s costume shop are featured as well as photos and video clips specially chosen to bring the world of ballet alive to its audiences. Lecturers intersperse factual information with entertaining anecdotes from their own performing careers. With the Dance Option, the audience is invited to learn some basic steps to music so that they can physically relate to what they will see on stage, while experiencing the fun of dancing together.
Workshops are customizable for groups based on age or particular areas of interest, and have been enjoyed by male and female participants of all ages from Pre-Schoolers to Seniors, as well as combination groups. They are a wonderful way to introduce newcomers to the art form or to engage seasoned fans in new ways.
Workshops are designed to be portable and may be given at various sites including Boston Ballet’s studios (Boston, Newton, and Norwell), group sites such as hotels, schools, conference centers, and senior centers, or at the theatre prior to ballet productions. They work well as a pre-show experience, or a stand alone group activity.
“The Art of Ballet” lecturers include Center for Dance Education faculty members who have extensive backgrounds as performers and educators. They are selected for their ability to entertain and engage audiences of all ages.
